Brian’s interest in photography began at age 14 when
he joined the Launceston Camera Club with his elder
brother, and between them they won many awards.
Initial
work was on glass plates before moving to cut film and a
Graflex and Speed Graphic cameras purchased as excess
stock from the Launceston Examiner Newspaper. Brian was
registered as a freelance photographer with the paper
and was the Tasmanian representative for Modern Motor
and Wheels magazines, all at the age of 16 years. Class
photos and the School magazine were part of the
teenager’s portfolio.
Later
years saw many cameras bought and sold before moving to
35mm. All processing was done in the family darkroom,
shared with older Brother Graeme.
Family
photos, growing children, cars, old buildings were all
photographed. Later years saw Brian discover digital
photography with travel within
Australia
and overseas producing some interesting images.
It
was then someone mentioned the Dayboro Gallery where
Sandra was showing her watercolours and then Brian was
invited to display some of his work.
Following
a 4 month trip around Australia, a new printer, and
supply of canvas paper Brian is now producing some
varied images from our beautiful North, such as Kakadu
NP the rugged
West Coast to the South Western corner of our great
country.
